Treat Acne With Mother Nature

Let's face it: treating acne and troublesome skin conditions can be costly and often ineffective. Lotions, potions and creams are touted on late night commercials, and local pharmacies have entire aisles devoted to expensive and chemically-laden products that supposedly cure acne. However, the success rate for the products is low due to the fact that they use foreign substances and chemicals that can counteract any good that they purport to deliver. Take heart, however, because the treatments you need are close at hand, found in the essence of your natural surroundings. Read on for some alternate ways to fight acne and keep it from taking over your life.

Acne is often caused by bacteria that can build up in the pores of your skin. One way to prevent this from occurring is to ingest natural food products that counteract bacteria. Garlic has naturally occurring sulpher components that can be effective in treating acne. It can be applied topically or ingested internally to reach its potential effect. To use it topically, you can either slice a fresh clove of garlic and apply it directly to affected areas or grind it and add water to make a paste or a liquid cleanser. To actually prevent breakouts from occurring in the first place, incorporate garlic into your daily diet or just consume a few cloves directly. To avoid the strong aroma associated with garlic, mix it with lemon or honey. Some people even recommend soaking it in milk for a few minutes before consumption.

Aloe vera is a natural plant with healing properties and can be an effective tool in treating acne. The gel contained in the leaves of the plant itself can be applied directly to pimples and blackheads. Simply break open the leaves of the plants and the gel will ooze out. It can also be used to treat sunburns and minor wounds. Soaps, lotions and moisturizers containing aloe vera can also be useful, but take care to choose ones that do not have added chemicals or preservatives, as these will counteract the healing effect of the aloe vera plant. This treatment can also be used to reduce scarring from old acne flareups.

If cystic acne is a particular problem for you, try treating your skin with strawberry leaves. This natural fruit can help ease the swelling associated with cysts that occur deep inside the skin. The alkaline content of the strawberry leaves can reduce swelling when soaked in hot water for a few minutes, then applied directly to the cystic acne spots. Leave them on for up to an hour for optimum effectiveness.
