There are certain types of acne that can temporarily be treated by antibiotics to quell the flare up. They work by attacking the bacterial infection that is causing the acne in the first place. This often does not happen unless you have a boil, etc. After treating with antibiotics other skin care treatments should be used. You have to visit your doctor or dermatologist to have them diagnose your condition so that they know the correct medications to use to help clear your acne flare ups.

This is a new kind of acne treatment normally used for treating papules or pistules or white or black heads. The theory is that if you use these lights they will penetrate the skin and cause a reaction that excites the sebum in the skin pores. The blue light treatment works for the sebum and pores and the red light can help with the inflammation of the acne. The blue light has far more research behind it. Different kinds of red and blue light treatments are available. Table top treatments can require you to do around 10-15 minutes of the therapy a day and 30 minutes to one hour a day if you are using a hand held red and blue light therapy device.
